RDB x La Risonanza: Sprezzatura!

Sprezzatura – An effortless nonchalance. A careless grace. The zenith of virtuosity. Amidst songs of ardent love and intense heartbreak, sprezzatura is an air which prevails in the music of 17th-century Italian composers such as Monteverdi, Cavalli and Strozzi.

Led by Artistic Director Alan Choo, this exciting collaboration between Red Dot Baroque and Italy's La Risonanza explores this corner of Baroque repertory rarely performed in Singapore, played on instruments such as the theorbo, recorder and sackbut – the predecessor of the trombone.

ABOUT THIS EVENT

We hope that you will accept our invitation to this festive Cantata Series program which explores the new and different and celebrates the more familiar. Beginning with Bach’s very unique BWV 18, which is scored for two recorders and four violas, we then move to a cantata by the lesser known Baroque composer, Nicholas Bruhns. Bruhns was a child prodigy and pupil of Buxtehude, but his tragically short life has left us with few, albeit excellent, pieces. Vivaldi’s Concerto for two trumpets begin the celebration of the second half of the performance, which concludes gloriously with Purcell’s Ode, Come, Ye Sons of Art, Away. Join the Voice majors, Red Dot Baroque led by Alan Choo, and members of the Orchestral Institute for this, our 11th anniversary of the series.
